Good movie post interval
Before the release of the film, many people were discussing if it was a copy of Sivakarthikeyan’s Don 2. Both are similar but also different in many ways. The film gets a rocky start. However, it comes together in the second half. This part packs in more twists and turns. It is in the second half that director Ashwath Marimuthu’s brilliance truly shows. Ragavan’s arc and his point of realisation are well-developed. The film avoids the cliched ending where the hero wins despite all his mistakes. Some interesting moments of brilliance shine through.
The biggest issues that I had was the romantic angle between Ragavan and Keerthi. It just did not seem genuine enough. And I just dont understand why the film makes her a villian for leaving him. I felt it was a bit archaic and especially in times where people are talking breakups being a part and parcel of life, this arc seemed very outdated.
Visually, the cinematography is really good. This creates a strong aura that complements the film very well. Although the characters are ok-written, some of the performances add authenticity, making the journey feel engaging throughout and cinematography enhances it in a big way. The songs are great and the way they blend into the narrative is also a great plus to the film.
The first half lays a foundation which looks extremely dragged, the second half picks up the pace. This makes it enjoyable and heart wrenching at times especially in the second half. The climax did work for me and I felt this was the best part of the film.
Verdict: The film is entertaining film that celebrates the youth and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams. Its a good weekend watch and not to be taken too seriously.
